During this holiday season, fintech provider Unbanked aims to enable crypto donations for Toys for Tots, a program that is run by the US Marine Corps that collects toys to distribute to the less-fortunate children.
In a December 2 announcement, Unbanked stated that it would be letting users donate cryptos including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) as part of a fundraising effort for Toys for Tots. Until December 20, good Samaritans can send any amount of money towards the program that has given 604 million toys to around 272 million children across Puerto Rico, the United States, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Unbanked co-CEO Ian Kane said:
“The cryptocurrency bull market has been good to all of us in this industry and this holiday season is the perfect time to pay it forward. We naturally wanted to use the benefits of crypto to give back during this holiday season.”
However, Unbanked does not exclusively represent all cryptocurrency users’ philanthropic endeavors. A project that operates under the name Elf Token reported that it has received $41,200 to be used toward purchases for Toys for Tots as of December 4, intending to raise $100,000 over this holiday season.
Furthermore, the Giving Block, a platform that enables non-profit organizations and charities to accept crypto donations, today enables donations using many other tokens for the toy collection program.
End of the day. 100 toys donated, $1,200 in value bringing our total donations to date to $41,200.@ToysForTots_USA only recommendation is that you might need larger bins for @elf_token since we are not stopping anytime soon #ElfToken #ElfArmy pic.twitter.com/gQycjAMCNW

Universities, charities, faith-based institutions, and several others have stepped up the number and amounts of donations in cryptocurrency as part of Giving Tuesday this year. Previous reports that came on December 2 stated that the Giving Block raised $2.4 million in crypto in 2024. It represents a 583% increase from the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in 2021, the platform now targets to raise over $100 million in cryptocurrency donations by the end of this year.
