Since January 2021, Vitalik Buterin’s crypto holdings have doubled to reach above $1 billion. Buterin is the co-founder of the world’s most popular smart contract platform, the Ethereum blockchain. Thus, he has officially become a crypto billionaire.
Buterin’s public Ether address that he described as his main wallet hit $1 billion on its balance after Ether exploded to reach above the $3,000 price mark on May 3.
At the time of publication, the address holds nearly 333,500 Ether (ETH) now worth $1.029 billion, based on on-chain data from Etherscan. Ether has more than quadrupled in value from nearly $700 at the start of 2021.
Today, the world’s biggest altcoin is trading above $3,140, up nearly 8.6% in the last 24 hours, with gains of 36% in the last seven days, based on data from CoinGecko.
Based on some of the online players, 27-year-old Buterin now might be the youngest self-made billionaire in the crypto sector.

Amid these surging prices, Buterin has already been generous with his crypto holdings. Back in April 2021, the Russian-Canadian programmer donated 100 Ether on top of 100 Maker (MKR) tokens to a COVID-19 relief fund for India.
