Akon’s Akoin (AKN) crypto is expected to become the exclusive crypto of the Mwale Medical and Technology City in Kenya. The crypto project that was developed by Senegalese-American singer Akon has finished its pilot rollout stage of its deployment in the Mwale Medical and Technology City complex.
Based on previous reports, the trial phase was launched in November 2021 at the time of the AKN listing on the Bittrex crypto exchange. After the success of the initial pilot project, the Akoin cryptocurrency is now fully designed for full deployment in the $2 billion-medical complex in July.
While commenting on the success of this program, Akoin President and co-founder Jon Karas said that the latest rollout was received with ‘great enthusiasm.’ After it gets fully deployed, AKN might become available for adoption among some 2,000 merchants, 5,000 hospital workers, and more than 35,000 residents of the MMTC.
In general, the Akoin team estimates that more than $5 million in transactions will come from the facility using AKN tokens.
Based on that announcement, real-life utilization of AKN coins will increase significantly to cover the almost 20,000 MMTC workers anticipated by December 2021. By the end of next year, the Akoin team believes that AKN will become the exclusive digital currency of this facility and will process $1.7 billion to $2 billion in transactions annually.
As part of the planned Akoin exclusivity within the complex, residents and workers can get their salaries in AKN. Notably, the token will also be used for peer-to-peer money transfers, micro-transactions, mobile airtime top-ups, among others.

The Akoin team also wants to release a physical card connected to the AKN wallet. This development will enable users to transact across at least 40 million global merchant platforms. The co-founder of Akoin, For Lynn Liss, said that the project aims to use the lessons acquired from the AKN deployment in the MMTC as a dependable blueprint for increasing the adoption of the token in the whole of Africa.
Akoin is the planned official currency of the futuristic Akon City that is being set up in Senegal. Also, the Akon Foundation is creating a blockchain incubator in the MMTC. Will the Akoin crypto join the mainstream economic infrastructure with Kenya seemingly considering investing in Bitcoin?
