A new analysis from Gamesindustry.biz suggests that game sales across the most crucial 50 global markets jumped by 63% this year. The sharpest rises came from countries that imposed a lockdown. In France, digital downloads increase by over 180% during the first week of lockdown (middle March 2020). In Spain, digital sales went up by 142.8% while in Italy, the number went up by a staggering 174.9%.
The online gambling sector has surged despite strict regulations curtailing its growth around the globe. According to a recent report from Nasdaq.com, the internet gambling revenues in the US jumped 66% in March to $65 million, This figure does not include sports betting figures. If the trends continue, the total figure for this year would cross $700 million, up from the $483 million it earned in 2019.
Other studies prove similar growth
Australian online gaming sector also profited because of the pandemic. A joint study by credit bureau illion Australian Pty Ltd. and AlphaBeta Australia suggests that online gambling rose by 67% in the month of April after all non-essential businesses were shut down in the country.
Global Markets Insights Inc. also reveals that the online gambling market will continue to grow exponentially until it eventually crosses the $160 billion mark by 2026. The report highlights better smartphone adoption, internet infrastructure improvements, better technologies like IoT, blockchains, VR, and cryptocurrencies as the primary driving factors behind the rise.
Players are now increasingly shifting to crypto based gambling sites. Bling, a US-based crypto gaming website reported a 50% increase in users bin March 2020, according to CoinTelegraph. Blockchains help in providing more secure and transparent transactions and even provide better odds compared to traditional gaming sites. This is drawing users towards a blockchain-based online crypto gaming experience.
